A major point I learned was the malleability of the various intelligences. It originally started as seven different intelligences. Then the Nature intelligence was added when sufficient proof was obtained. It is highly possible that more intelligences could be added on in the future. Another point is the presences of each intelligence within everyone. A person may not be musically inclined, but that does not stop their appreciation of music. Intelligences are not separate either. Multiple intelligences are used for various activities. An example is planning a speech. This would require linguistic, logical, body-kinesthetic, and interpersonal intelligences.
Initially, I was doubtful about this theory. I had heard the concepts before, but dismissed them as unimportant. Seeing them in use has completely changed my opinion of the theory. Everybody has at least one aspect they excel at. Some can be incredibly gifted speakers while others are confident introverts. I was not exceptionally surprised to find out I excelled in the interpersonal category. I was surprised to find out I also had decent logical and verbal intelligences.
In a classroom setting, planning lessons that play towards each intelligence will greatly help a student grow. Small group conversations would greatly help an interpersonal learner. Independent assignments would aid an intrapersonal learner. Musical project options would enthrall a musical learner. Historical artifacts and demonstrations for bodily-kinesthetic learners. Layouts of ancient cities would help a naturistic learner. Various other activities incorporated throughout a given unit ensure that the needs of every student are appropriately met.
